2004 Ohio River

10.23 lbs. Brought Mueller & Maurice
First  at the F.O.C.A.S Ohio Tournament

Every angler  said the same thing, "It was a fun day, but a hard day on the water."    Launching 77 boats on July 17th on the Ohio River at first light started the fifth F.O.C.A.S. tournament of the season.  For those of you who are counting, there is one more tournament on Kaskaskia River on August  14th, then it's on to the much awaited Classic/Outdoor Show October 8-10.  Those anglers who have fished four or more F.O.C.A.S. tournaments qualify for the Classic, which will be officiated by B.A.S.S. pro's, Shaw Grigsby, Mark Rose and Robert Hamilton.
Forty-two anglers weighed in, with  10 of them having limits to bring in a total of 127 bass totaling 203.59 pounds for the day.  Total pay out for eight places was $4,620.00 plus another, $770.00 Big Bass earnings to make the days-grand total of $5,390.00.

First place went to  the team of Dave Mueller  from Shiloh, IL and Rich Maurice from Oakaville, IL who weighed in their limit of 10.23 lbs. earning them $1,450.00 for the day.  This team also won Second Big Bass which brought them another $308.00, plus an OutLaw Rod, donated by F.O.C.A.S. sponsor, A - Z Outlet, Collinsville, IL. Their grand total for the day was $1,758.00.  Using plastics and crankbaits all day they fished the  creek up north.

Jason Cox from St. Genevieve, MO. and his partner Tom Boschert from New Athens, IL  also weighed in a limit of 10.18 lbs.  They got most of their bites in the morning in a creek up north using spinnerbaits.  They took home a $950.00 check.

Third Place went to the team of Bill Dearworth and Allan Weder both of Troy, IL who report fishing the south creek inside bends and catching three of their keepers on a crankbait and one on spinnerbait.  Weighing in at 9.26 lbs. which included the  Second Big Bass on a Big "0" chartreuse crankbait with a weight of 4.51 lbs., they took home $700.00, plus $462.00, and a  Wizard Rod, donated by F.O.C.A.S. sponsor, Wizard Rods, Climax, MO.  Their total check for the day added up to $1,162.00.  Bill listed his wife Kay as his sponsor, and I guess he had a happy sponsor today.

The following are the other winning positions for the event.

Fourth place:   Webster and Halstead, 5 fish, 8.78 lbs., $500.00

Fifth place:       Hubler and Hubler, 5 fish, 8.68 lbs.,  $375.00

Seventh place:  Guill and Bates, 5 fish, 8.26lbs., $220.00

Free food for the anglers and lots of draw prizes ended the tournament.  This tournament brought out eight husband and wife teams and eleven father/youth teams.  Our family division is growing and we encourage you to fish our circuit with your wife or children.  These kids have a big day on the lake and are eager to tell about how they and not Dad caught the fish being weighed.
