2003 trail kicks off with 68 boat field
After a one hour delay due to heavy fog, the Federation of Christian Anglers and Sportsmen ( F.O.C.A.S.) began their 2003 trail at Lake Egypt with 68 boats.
Fifty three teams weighed in 167
bass for a total of 273.13 lbs. of fish. Twelve teams weighed in a limit at the
end of the day.
First place went to the team of
James Felts and Harold Holmes, sponsored by the Amish Shop in Carollton, IL.,
with a total of 17.25 lbs. of fish. They report catching their biggest fish on
the South end of the lake. They caught a limit and stated four were on spinner
baits and one using a jig. Their pay for the day for first place was
$2,040.00.
Second place team was Greg Risley
and Tom Hummerickhouse with at total weight of 15.66 lbs. and a check for
$918.00. They report using Stanley jigs all day and catching their fish all over
the lake with the last big fish being caught 20 minutes before
weigh-in.
An 11 lb. bag of bass belonging
to the father and son team of Anthony Balding and A. J .Balding took third place
honors and a check for $435.00. The Balding's also won 2nd Big Bass with a
weight of 5.26 lbs. and added $272.00 to their pay for a total of $607.00 for
their day on the lake. They fished shallow crank baits over weeds and caught
their last fish one hour before weigh-in.
First Big Bass honors went the
the father and son team of Mike Radake and Kyle Radake with a weight of 6.25
lbs. They received a check for $408.00 and a Wizard Rod. They also took 7th
place weighing in 9.46 lbs. of fish and earning another $82.00 making their days
total, $490.00.
Fourth place went to team of Duke
Jenkel and Ed Daniell with a weight of 10.88 lbs. and a pay out of $299.00.
Chris Bardill and George Panick earned 5th place with a weight of 9.65 and pay
out of $204.00. Matt Crain and Russell Harris took 6th place for a weight of
9.56 and earned $102.00.
The anglers had free chili and soda waiting for them at the weigh-in.
F.O.C.A.S. encourages fishing
with a spouse and child. There were five spouse and 9 angler and youth teams
competing in the tournament. The youngest angler was four years old. There are
two Angler of the Year races this year. One for those fishing with a spouse or
youth and another for those fishing with a partner.
