F.O.C.A.S.
F.O.C.A.S. will be in need of volunteers for some upcoming
boat shows. If you can help with set up or tear down, face painting or clowning,
please let us know. The boat shows will be in St. Louis on January 16 - 19.

Twenty five boats launched at Washington Co. Lake near
Nashville at 6:00 a.m. on October 5, 2002 for the Federation of Christian
Anglers and Sportsmen's 2002 Classic. While the anglers fished all day, the
second day of the Outdoor Show at Eckert's in Belleville was being held.
F.O.C.A.S. marine sponsors were present with their craft for a year
end boat show and sale. Other sponsors and business' had their product available
for sale in the tent. This free event to the community offered a fish pond full
of blue gill and cat fish, a paint ball shoot and archery shoot for the kids.
The kids received "Fishin' Bucks"
at each activity
which they cashed in for prizes at the A Glorious Church Fellowship booth in the
tent. Also present in the booth were clowns who gave out balloon animals and
painted faces through out the weekend.
While waiting to officiate the weigh in at 3:30, B.A.S.S.
Pro's Shaw Grigsby, Jay Yelas and Mark Rose were available all day for
autographs and seminars. But you were most likely to find these great anglers
around the fishing pond spending time fishing with the kids. All three spoke
during the event to the crowd of anglers and told of their love for fishing, but
they let everyone present know that their greatest love is for their God and
they attribute their success to Him. They spoke of their faith, fishing and
family.
As the anglers
arrived for the weigh in, they were driven through the tent in their boats and
stepped out onto the stage with their catch to be greeted by the Pros who
interviewed them on their day on the water and weighed their catch. Twelve boats
weighed fish with a total of 33.52 pounds of fish.
First place and First Big Bass goes to the team of Larry
Zinn and Kevin White of Millstadt with 6.94 lbs. of fish. They earned a check
for $3, 000.00 for First Place $300.00 for Big Bass and they will also receive a
fiber glass reproduction of their Big Bass, which will be completed by Dennis
Isbill, Fish & Things, of Belleville, IL.
Second Place
went to the father and son team of Tony and A J Balding with 5.07 lbs. of fish
and a check for $1,000.00. Another father son team won third place, earning the
team of Bryan and Fred Hubler a check for $500 for 4.29 lbs. Fouth place, won by
Alan Schaefer and Ron Dill for 3.65 lbs. of fish earned them $300.00. They also
won Second BIg Bass for $200.00 with a weight of 3.65 lbs. Fifth place, won by
father and son team of Jim Jenkins and 11 year old Josh Jenkins earned them
$200.00 for a weight of 2.10 lbs. of fish.
F.O.C.A.S. encourages fishing with a spouse or child, age 6-17 which
earns points toward the Angler of the Year award. There were two husband and
wife teams and two father and young child teams entered in the Classic. Angler
of the Year awards were presented with Father and son team of Rev. David
Harbison and his 9 year old son John earning First Place Angler of the Year for
2002. Second place went to husband and wife team of George and Marty Fudge and
Third Place awarded to husband and wife team of Cleo and Vanessa Roy.
F.O.C.A.S. wants to thank all who participated in
and those who attended this years Classic and Outdoor Show. We are looking
forward to our 2003 trail with great sponsors and great anglers who fish our
tournament trail. Watch for our 2003 schedule and come be a part of 2003
tournaments. F.O.C.A.S. is always looking for quality anglers to join our trail.

Kaskaskia River

Kaskaskia River tournament on August 17th
launched 30 boats with 17 teams weighing in fish at 3:00 p.m. First place honors
went to the team of Mike Anderson and Kevin Woker who caught their 6.74 lbs. of
fish in the last hour on crankbaits to earn them $900. They also won First
BIg Bass with a weight of 4.13 for another $180.
Second place went to
the team of Bobby Deutchman and David DeSpain with 6.10 lbs. earning them
$600 for the day. They caught fish off and on all day with 20 stops using
Mad Dog Spinner Baits.
Third Place and Second
Big Bass winners are the team of Duke Jenkel and Roger Buyan with a weight
of 6.06 and a check for $300 and $120.
After the weigh in,
which was held at F.O.C.A.S.' sponsor, Muddy Waters,
the anglers and
their families enjoyed a fish fry provided by F.O.C.A.S.

Ohio River Tournament

The Team of Lowell Spiller & Randy
Lyons
take First Place with 12.13 lbs.
and 1st Place Big Bass at 4.84 lbs.
The Ohio River tournament on July 27th
launched 46 boats, with 33 teams weighing in fish. There were 19 limits
for the day. First Place went to the team of Lowell Spiller and Randy
Lyons with 12.13 lbs. of fish. They also took First Big Bass honor with a
4.84 weight. They report catching their limit on Zoom Lizards and Big "M"
Spinnerbaits.
Second place went to husband and wife
team of Bill and Linda Penrod with 11.97 lbs. of fish. They caught their
limit by 8:00 a.m. in the creek on soft plastics.
Third Place went to another husband and
wife team, Bob and Melody Swisher who weighed in 11.73 lbs. of fish which took
all day to catch. Using crankbaits and spinnerbaits they also brought in a
limit.
Fourth place went to the team of
Fletcher and Hish; Fifth place to the team of Penrod and GIbbons; Sixth to
McCabe and Jones and Second Big Bass to another husband and wife team, Cleo and
Vanessa Roy.

OCTOBER 5th
With three tournaments left on the 2002 F.O.C.A.S.
tournament trail, plans are already in place for the Classic on October 5th with
Shaw Grigsby and Jay Yelas returning to officiate the weigh in. Last years
Classic and Outdoor show was held in Belleville with a huge crowd in attendance.
Not only were the pros' present to give seminars and chat with the crowd, there
was a fish pond, casting pond and archery for the kids. Plus, vendors with
hunting and fishing product and food. This year promises to be as
exciting, so make plans to attend. Watch for more details in the upcoming
September issue of ASO.

Golconda Marina. Pre-tournament meeting will be on July 26th at 7:30 p.m. at the
Marina. You can register by phone using your MasterCard or Visa, at the
pre-tournament or at the ramp the morning of the launch. Launch time will be
first safe light or 6:00 a.m.
Our August tournament will be held on the Kaskaskia River on
August 17th.

F.O.C.A.S. Rend Lake Tourament

1st Place Winners Roger Buyan and Duke

REND LAKE TOURNAMENT
At 5:35 a. m. thirty-five
boats launched from Sailboat Harbor for the third tournament on the F.O.C.A.S.
trail. Once again, the weather was raining the night before and was cold
the morning of the launch. But, it did warm up during the day and the
weigh-in had the sun shining and warmer temps.
Thirteen teams weighed fish
for a total of 53.06 pounds for the day. The team of Duke Jenkel and Roger
Buyan took First place with a total weight of 6.63 lbs. They caught their
fish on dark color Mid South Tackle tubes. They report having all
three fish caught by 11:00 at Gun Creek They say they lost one keeper and had a
total of 10-12 fish caught during the day. Their pay for the day was
$1,050.
Second place went to the
team of Greg Risley and Tom Humerrickhouse with 6.14 pounds of fish and a check
for $525. They also took Second Big Bass honors for $140, which gave them
a total payday of $665. They report fishing the Wayne Fitzgerald area and
catching their first by 9:00 on white spinnerbaits.
A total weight of 5.80 took
Third Place honors and went to the team of Steve Westrich and Kent Brookman for
a $350 check. Spinnerbaits and tubes caught them their three keepers in
the first and last hour of the tournament.
Fourth place went to father
and son team of Pastor David Harbison and eight year old John Harbision with a
total weight of 4.81lbs. and a check for $175.
First Big Bass honors went
to Greg Mullins and Jeff Atchison with a weight of 4.13 and a check for
$210.
The anglers returned to the
weigh in for free brats, sodas, coffee and door prizes while the weights were
tallied.
There were four husband and
wife teams and five father and son teams on the water. The kids ranged in
age from eight to sixteen. F.O.C.A.S. encourages fishing with your spouse
or a child from age 6-17.

F.O.C.A.S. Fishing Derby

Tierra Harris took 1st place in the Senior Youth
Division
89 young anglers (or shall we say Future Pro's)
signed up for the F.O.C.A.S fishing derby this past Saturday. Tierra Harris took
1st place in the Senior Youth Division with a total of 65 inches of fish. Rhett
Gavch took 1st place in the Youth Division and Jessica Petrie took 1st place in
the Junior Youth Division. Check out the Kid's Derby

F.O.C.A.S. LAKE SHELBYVILLE TOURNAMENT

RAIN..................

Roland Sullivan and Jason Covington take
1st place and 2nd Big Bass
Thirty-three boats launched at 6:00 a.m. on April 27 at Lake
Shelbyville. But, the rain which started soon after launch and continued
all day, had only eight boats weighing in fish.
First place winners, Roland Sullivan and Jason
Covington, weighed in 6.22 lbs. of fish and earned $990 at the end of a wet and
cold day. They also took 2nd Big Bass, with a 3.58 lb. fish for another
check for $132, bringing their total for the day to $1,122. They
said this was their first tournament on Shelbyville and had caught their fish
before 8:30 a.m. on Terminator Spinnerbaits. This team saw the 2001
F.O.C.A.S. Classic on "Fishin' With Big John Winkleman" television show and
begin our 2002 trail with us at Lake Egypt and say they plan to continue fishing
the F.O.C.A.S. tournament trail.
Second place winners, with 4.52 lbs. of fish were Roger Shaw
and Wayne Shaw. Their payday was $660. They caught their first fish
by 8:00 a.m. and the second by 10:00 a.m. on the north end of the lake.
They report catching them on an R C Lure brown and black 5/16 ounce Baby
Advantage Jig.
Third place with a 3.92 fish, which also earned them First
Big Bass, went to the team of Rodney Egelston and John Wright who earned $330
and $198 for a total of $528.
On the water that day were four husband and wife teams and
four father and son teams inspite of the weather. The anglers were coming
in early all day long due to the wind and rain. As usual, a free lunch was
waiting for them at the weigh in site.
Next F.O.C.A.S. tournament will be May 18th at Rend
Lake. You can pre-register by calling (618) 235-6373 and using your Visa,
MasterCard or American Express, or you can request an application to be sent by
mail. Pre-registrations by mail have to be received by us no later than the
Wednesday before the tournament. Boats are launched in the order the
registration is received. Remember as always we are continuously "Fishin' With A Mission."

2002 TRAIL KICKS OFF WITH 70 BOAT
FIELD

Brown & Becker take 1st place and Big Bass
Honors
In spite the cold and wind following Friday night's
heavy rain, 70 teams competed on March 16th at Lake Egypt to begin the 2002
tournament trail for the Federation of Christian Anglers & Sportsmen
(F.O.C.A.S.).
Forty-eight teams weighed a total of 323.34 pounds
of fish at the end of the day. The team of Charlie Brown and Roger Becker
took first place with a total weight of 15.68 lb. They also received
first Big Bass honors with a 5.83 lb. lunker. They report having their
limit by 9:00 a.m. They caught their fish on 1/2 oz. Stanley Vibra shaft spinner
baits and 3/8 oz. Stanley jigs fishing the back end of the lake. Their pay was
$2,100 for 1st Place and $430 for 1st Big Bass, totaling $2,530 for their day on
the lake.
Second place went to the team of Troy Lowery and Tim Marcum
with a total weight of 13.34 lb. and a check for $945. They caught a total
of 13 fish during the day around mid lake. They report fishing green and
pumpkin Advantage jigs by RC lures.
A 12.90 lb. bag of bass belonging to the team of Mark Jelley
and Dan Clark took third place honors and a check for $448. Mark and Dan
fished shallow and then went deep later in the day using Terminator spinner
baits and Bandit crank baits.
Fourth place went to the team of Derek Jenkel and
Roger Buyan with a weight of 12.77 lb. with pay out of $308. George Fudge
and Marty Fudge weighed in 12.19 lb. to win 5th place and earning $210.
Sixth place went to the team of Terry Hale, Sr. and Terry Hale, Jr. who
weighed in 11.42 and took home $105. The 7th place finish went to Mark
Dill and Tim Pruett with a total of 10.60 lb. and earned them $84. The
team of Joe Cocas and Joe Metler took home $208 and Second Big Bass honors with
a weight of 5.78. The anglers had free brats, soda and coffee waiting for
them at the weigh in.
F.O.C.A.S. encourages fishing with a
spouse or a child, ages 6-17, and at this tournament there were five husband and
wife teams and seven father and son teams fishing. Quite a day for the
kids who ranged in age from 8 years to 17. Angler of the Year points are
earned for preregistration, pre-tournament meeting attendance, fishing the
tournament, placing and fishing with spouse or child.
